what did you do to your thirdgen today?

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
more and more wiring. couple trips to the parts store and found a serpentine belt that i think would work. found both radiator hoses that should work. thought a f-body one would work but with the new radiator the lower outlet was a bit bigger than a stock 4th gen one. need to have my power steering line made differently cause it sits up too high and will hit the turbo.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
Finished powdercoating and rebuilding 1/4 calipers for my 86 project. Some trial and error but I realized sanding the caliper to clean up the casting results in a waaaay better finish. Kinda stupid being it will be hidden behind a formula wheel, but I still enjoy the detail.

Full service after almost 5 years of sitting. Removed Driver and passenger seat for some cheap bucket seats off the marketplace. Still trying to figure out my SES issue with EGR, and pull off the covers to check rocker seating. Projects going to be a project.

Not that difficult really but did take a little time. Made it out of cardboard a couple of times. Thanks for the compliment.

Tie rod boots.
Aggressive 8" toe-out
I also spent a few hours learning how to remove my smog pump & scrape the 28-year-old grease off the ground wire bolted behind it. But my starter still sometimes hesitates ½ second.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
Made good progress today. I got the suspension and steering out of the car with no trouble.
Next step is to find a suspension shop to press the bushings and ball joints out of the control arms, and hopefully compress and band my new springs.
Then I will get the control arms, sway bar, and wonder bar blasted and powder coated.
I put one of the new Moog bearing plates in and noticed that the rear slot is significantly wider than the other two. But the flange nuts supplied with the plate aren't wide enough to span the slot. What am I missing? I tried adding a larger diameter washer under the flange nut, but torquing to 28 ft lbs bent the washers.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
You are going to need an industrial load-bearing type of thick, hardened flat washer.
You might even have to grind a flat on one edge so that it will sit flat.

The 6.0 started going together today. Got the pistons on the rods and started putting the mains in. I caved and ordered an arp bolt stretch gauge and rod vise. I keep putting money into this build, might as well do it right.

Tore my LS6 intake manifold down. Submerging it in a bath of dawn and water soon to clean it before painting.
also mocked up my air intake. Waiting until I swap the LS6 intake in before making it final, just wanted to make sure my elbow was fitting the throttle body good.

spoke to my buddy whos gonna build my turbo kit and intercooler piping. said he should be able to start my car next weekend. hes moving shops and wants to do it before he moves. so i threw the front suspension back on. threw the wheels on. found out one of my new ball joints is bad. ugh. ill change it later when i do my big brakes. cant wait to get my turbo kit built though.
got more fittings for my fuel system. its pretty much done. just need to order my fuel pump then it should all be done.

Car is going in for a total repaint April 11. It will be gone for a month. Told the painter I want it to look better than new. I have seen his work, so I know he can do it. Can't wait.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
Repaired my door panels, with some help from my old friend Mr. Mickey Mouse.
Some of the top mounting holes were torn out, and the rearmost pin was snapped off.
Found this doodad in a bucket of screws in my garage, like a big plastic thumbscrew with a little metal screw in the center, and filed off the point so it wouldn't pierce the inside surface of my door panel.
Then screwed it into the broken pin, and JB Welded it to the panel. Now it can hold itself straight.
The driver's side wasn't quite as bad; I just epoxied a random strip of heavy plastic above the torn hole.

Re: what did you do to your thirdgen today?
finally wired up may rad fans. ordered my hellcat fuel pump, decided to try and power up the car (not start it) to see if i had some wiring done right. then washed it off for the first time since august, although its been under a car cover the whole time. dont mind all the wiring hanging down, im still working on this thing. hoping my buddy stands by his word and takes my car this week to start building the turbo kit. was supposed to take it friday but he had to go to arizona. gotta figure out what to do about the ride height. think with the tubular k, new shocks and springs and stuff its kinda stuck up there.
