I'm trying to figure out the best way to combat the front end lift my car seems to experience when at speed. It's not exactly comforting how light the steering can get when you start to get farther in triple digits. Anyone have any experience solving this? Aftermarket offers generic splitters but I don't know if that would have the needed functionality. Not sure if it's an aero or suspension issue.
Camaros have grille openings and can get cooling air at road speed. Firebirds cannot. I needed to install an extended air dam and side skirts to keep the air from under the floor.
A Camaro could benefit from a more rigid (urethane?) nose with a splitter and lip air dam, similar to what I did on this:
If you can keep air from under the nose and sides, and keep the rear open for vacuum, it helps stick the body a bit better. My TA used to get a little floaty just a tiny bit under the three-digit range, and not any more. My B-body sticks better, even when it's more than halfway to the second turn of three digits.
Of course, all of this needs to happen at the track, but still, air is air. If you want examples, look more closely at NASCAR bodies since they deal with a lot of ram air and turbulence.
I appreciate the input. I understand what you mean, if you can minimize the air getting under there, it would minimize the lift. Anything to make the car more stable and safer. When I'm done with it, it's supposed to be a car you can take and enjoy at a road course, and with the power behind it, triple digits would come quickly.
