Tranny leak fixed now Speedo quit working
Finally took the plunge last weekend and purchased my first IROC-Z. I drove it to work the next day and my wife called to let me know that there was a red puddle on the garage floor where my car had sat. Tracked it down to the O-ring where the speedo cable comes out of tranny. Drove the car 26 miles to work the next day with no leaks or issues. Left work that day and halfway home the speedometer quits working. Went through everything again, found nothing broken or wrong that I could see. Reassembled and had a working speedo again for about 4 miles then it quit working. I think I must be missing something here. Is there a "keeper" or something that prevents that gear from moving? Is the cable too worn to stay in the gear shaft end? Very frustrating.

most likely the plastic gear that drives the cable is worn . they come in diffrent colors ,so as long as you get the same one you should be fine

Thank you. Never occurred to me that the gear could be the problem. I drove the car 200 miles before I touched the speedometer housing. Something is moving around in there.
