I got a hydraulic 4 post lift from an old mechanic that closed his shop for free. I just gotta pour a concrete slab and get a car port built over it

Mine sits on 10 ton truck stands. The 2 ton car stands don't get it high enough off the floor.

The platforms are 8 pieces built 6" high each placed in stages, front rear front rear. Took about 15 to 20 8 foot long 2x4s and 2 pounds of 2 1/2" drywall screws to build. Gives alot of room to work under the car.

Degweiser - what I meant to ask is how do you get the car up on all 4 blocks? Do you just jack up one part of the car at a time, slide under and move to next block?

First 6" platform under the drivers side front next under passenger side front then drivers rear and passenger rear then start at the drivers front again and go around the same way

Been busy installing 60Amp service out to my garage, getting closer and being able to use a lift is becoming more of a reality. This is a great one too!

I work construction so I have the opportunity to bring home a lot of scrap wood. I cut header boards down, screw them together into 1' square blocks. Then I set my jack stands on top of them and am able to get my car 2'-3' off the ground safely.

Im looking a "bumper jack" just to raise the car higher: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...FRSIfgodSW8PDg.
In their video it works really smooth and has a latch. I just want another foot height or so then i can turn over while under the car. My current floor jack has only 19"+ which only moves the wheel centers like 6" off the ground. Also like those wood stands. Im thinking more of some wood stands for the frame rather than the tires though so i can leave the wheels off. Any pix of wood "jack stands"?

Unless those points are going under the rear axle I wouldn't use that jack on a unibody car.

Sorry but i dont understand what your trying to say. Car is unibody but it has jacking locations in the owners manual and i use them all the time for jack stands. What is the difference for wood stands in the same location?

Maybe I read your post wrong but that sounds like what you were talking about doing.

That's all fine and well but the bumper jack you posted and said you were thinking about using appears to lift via the rear bumper, which is not a lift point on these cars and could screw up your car (twist, bend, etc.)

Re: Poor man's car lift - what are you using?
I have a 2 ton low profile / long reach jack from harbor freight (item #60678) and it works great for low cars. The best part about it is that it has a 23-3/4" lift height, which is the most I've seen from a low cost jack. I also bought the optional floor jack cross beam (item #60762) and it spreads out to 37".
As for the wooden jack stands just build your own. Like I said in my previous post I just cut boards into 1' squares and screwed them together until I got my desired height. Just google "wooden Jack Stand" and look at any one of the 1000 images that come up.

Oh i think a bumber jack should work from the side though. I have no plans to use it at the car ends. But i will size it up just to see what it can do.
Well i have a nice large floor jack now but it just doesnt get the car high enough. I want to lift it 30'-40". My garage has low ceiling so a larger lift does me no good.
Yea, i know i can google wood stands, but thx for the reminder. And i wasnt planning to have someone else build them for me. Dont know where u get that idea

Re: Poor man's car lift - what are you using?
Take that bumper jack and toss it off to the side. You try jacking one of these cars from the side or rear, with a bumper, to get a height of 30-40" INCHES not FEET as you mentioned above, 2 things are gonna happen....
1. Your gonna screw the car up by improper use of a BUMPER JACK....and
2. When it comes crashing to the floor and finally comes to a rest, I hope you're not around it....cuz its gonna hurt........A LOT. JMO
Good Luck and Safe travels .

Ha ha I figured you would build your own but in post #20 you said you were looking for some, and there have been people on here that make me wonder about humanity some times Lol! Didn't mean to offend... :-)
I really have been impressed by my current jack setup. The pads on each side go up too so I would say I get a good 27"-30" of lift. I have also made wood attachments so I can lift my truck that has 35's on it and a 6" lift.

If a floor jack does it for u then thats what u need. watching the vendor video for the bumper jack looked very smooth and i want to try one. I expect my back will congratulate me for using it.

Ok thx for typo correction. U r a big help. Now can u explain how to lift a car 30" to 40" with a floor jack?
I can read that in your mind there is no way to safely use a bumper jack. Good luck and safe travels lifting your car 30" to 40" with a floor jack.

Simple? No. Pump, pump, pump one corner then block that corner. Next pump, pump, pump the next corner then block again. Now over to the other side and pump, pump, pump and block again. Now to the last corner and pump, pump, pump and block up this corner also. Done? No, not even.
Now put the jack on some "built platform" and pump, pump, pump and install taller block. Move that platform and jack over and pump, pump, pump and swap another block. Over to other side with the platform and jack again and pump, pump, pump and another block swap. Move platform and jack again and pump, pump, pump and bigger block again.
Done yet??? Maybe, maybe not. And only 3 pumps/corner isnt even close either. Maybe in your mind thats simple but no way in mine.
Try this and roll the bumper jack under one side, connect the air hose and thumb the lever over until the car is up where u want it then block it. Wheel the bumper jack to other side repeat. Thats all folks. Choose for yourself.

Re: Poor man's car lift - what are you using?
First off you need a decent floor jack, if you are having to move the jack that much. Jack the car ounder the k member and and differential. But hey its your money and your car, do what you want. I'm out.
