Tech / General EngineIs your car making a strange sound or won't start? Thinking of adding power with a new combination? Need other technical information or engine specific advice? Don't see another board for your problem? Post it here!
Hello, I am 13 years old and my dad got me a 1986 z28 camaro for my first car, my dad wants me to EARN the car so by Friday I have to know what my cylinder heads are, what cc,what intake, what valve. If anyone can help me I would appreciate thanks.
That's a wide open set of questions that we don't have enough information to know what your car has just as yet. I do find it strange you have to 'earn' it by Friday though...three more years till you can legally drive...
Anyway, First things first, if the car is still bone stock. The car is almost 30 years old and so many things could have happened to it since then. If it's no longer stock it'll take a lot longer to figure out roughly what you have. Look at the 8th digit of the VIN and we can tell you what the car originally had for an engine. VIN H? Carb'd 305ci V8. VIN F? Tuned Port injection 305ci V8
I'm the second owner my dad bought it from the original owner, it has a 305 tuned port fuel injected motor in it, the car sat for 15 years, we replaced the rear end and the fuel pump already. I need to know how to find the size of the intake valve and the exhaust valve
Your best bet is to buy a GM Service Manual specific to the car but you can start with a simple Chilton's Manual concerning it for $25.00 at just about any Auto Parts Store.
I've had my Chilton's for over 9 years now and it has been used so much it looks pretty bad.
Very valuable for some one just starting out or for just about anyone for that matter.

Factory 305 intake valves are 1.84in and exhaust are 1.50in. That's all you needed to know? For added info..your heads are PROBABLY #14014416, shortened to 416 heads. Easy to search for, http://outintheshop.com/faq/casting/heads.html. It shows them as 64cc chambers but I do believe they were nominally 58cc. Good Luck!
Also I'm envious of your tan interior...my 86 has a blah-gray.

RPO code for engine LB9
190 HP @ 4000 RPM
285 ft lbs torque at 2800 RPM
9.5:1 compression
Heads should be the 416 heads. 165cc intake port (runner), 65cc exhaust port, 58cc chambers, has 1.72" or 1.84" intake valves, being on a Z28 305 TPI I would say 1.84" intake valves... Exhaust valves are 1.50.
The valve stems of valves are 11/32" dia.. Sping installed height is around 1.700"
The max port flow on stock heads are 185 cfm intake, 137 cfm exhaust both @ .500" lift
Car cam with a 700r4 4 speed overdrive auto transmission
7-5/8" 10 bolt rear end with 2.73 gears or option of 3.23 gear ratio
The '86 engine has the peanut reduced camshaft in it.
Duration on cam is only 307* intake, 311* exhaust.
Valve lift is 0.350" intake, 0.385" exhaust
