89 Iroc, 5.0 TBI, 5 speed - wont start
Ok, where to start...
Bought an 89 Iroc, 305, TBI, Manual 5 speed, Convertible (my dream car!). It didn't have any wires in it, not a one. But had all components, engine, and trans (I was told they both work).
Bought an 89 RS, 305, TBI, Automatic, Hardtop as a parts car...thing had everything I needed and then some...I think LOL
So, here's where I am at...
Have removed all harnesses from the RS and installed them into the Iroc, have made all connections, installed the VATS module and Key Switch, and swapped out Throttle Bodies (the one in the Iroc just looked bad). Installed new plugs, wires, distributor cap, and rotor.
I have gotten it to crank over and she starts when I spray starter fluid into the throttle body....so it appears as if I am not getting gas.
I have checked the fuel pump fuse...it's good. When I turn the key, I can hear a whine...isn't that the fuel pump priming?
As I do not own a fuel pressure gauge, I opened the fuel lines at the engine, cranked the engine a few times, and no fuel comes out, not a drop...shouldn't there be?
I have read through a few posts, some say possible VATS not allowing injectors to open up, but, shouldn't there be fuel spraying out of the hose when disconnected?
I don't see an in-line filter, so it's probably in the tank. I've read they are self cleaning, so, I'm not thinking that is the issue. So, bad fuel pump?
Another thing I should mention, I have no idea how long the Iroc sat before I bought it.
Should I just swap the complete tank?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Filters are not self cleaning.
Look in the well in front of the tank, drivers side...filter faces crosswise underneath.
There is a screen filter in the tank, that attaches to the fuel pump though.
You sure you got an Iroc there?...Never knew an '89 Iroc came with TBI.
Yes, fuel should come out the pressure side, regardless of what the injectors are doing.
The whine you here under the hood, is not the FP
Some ALDLs have a pin G, with a wire you can run 12v too, and it should tum the pump on with direct voltage.
What is the 8th VIN number/letter on your car?
