From what it sounds like, you have everything disassembled up the the tilting pins. If so, you'll need a special tool which screws into them and pulls them out (a pin puller?). Once that is done, if I remember correctly the upper part of the column should come free. You should see four bolts in the center that are very loose, take them out, clean them off, apply some thread lock and put them back in.
There are a lot of articles out there and there are some videos explaining how to do it. Almost all GM steering columns were the same 'till the mod 90's, so any video with one of the gm columns should work.
