Really need help!!

Ok 1985 Z28 TPI will not start had some issues with tps in the past adjusted it car started fine. Ecm kept throwing codes used alldata diagnostics tree which showed ecm as being bad. Replaced ecm. Car was running and then wouldnt start again found out air filters were missing and ceramic wire to maf was broken. Also code 34. Has fuel has fire has compression but will not start. Read on here people unpluggin mafs and car runs still......so the question is will the car run or not run without a maf. What else could be my issue. Dont really want to switch to carb setup but its been down for way too long. Please help!

Yes it will run with the MAF unpluged. Have you used starter fluid? If it won't start on starter fluid it has a compression problem or it could be flooded.

Re: Really need help!!

No it doesn't run off starting fluid but it definitely isn't bad compression we have tested it. It seems something is keeping it from running it tries to start but just wont catch. Same exact way it was acting when the tps messed up. But new tps and it is adjusted correctly with a new pigtail as well. I have a the entire engine setup harness and all from a 91 Z28 but it would need a vats delete or some way to bypass the vats. I really need this car fixed asap and it is insane that it wont start when it was running just fine.

Re: Really need help!!

Check for flooding. After trying to start it pull some spark plugs to see if they are wet and look into the cylinder to see if it is wet.

Re: Really need help!!

I am sure it is flooding if I continue to crank and crank, but at this point if it doesn't start after first few cranks I stop. It is so odd because when it does fire up it runs fine. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, tps sensor, fresh gas, ECM, just don't get why it isn't starting.

Re: Really need help!!

Common causes of flooding are excessive fuel pressure and leaking injectors.
I would start by checking fuel pressure.

Re: Really need help!!

The ECM is usually one of the last things checked, so it's quite possible no one thought about it, so rarely do they cause issues.

Still, I'm glad you got it sorted!
