Lunati cam

I've been following the advice on these threads and i think im ready to throw down for my first cam swap. It has been surprisingly difficult to hunt down a good roller cam recommendation for my car, but im hoping this might just fit the bill:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/lu...make/chevrolet
Will this work with the mechanical fuel pump? am i overlooking something? does anyone have a better recommendation?
I think i have a small head gasket leak so im going to pull the heads in the near future and get some p&p done. I dont know if it would be worth my while to do more work to the heads to fit a bigger cam, at this point im not planning to. it is just an lg4. Going to keep the stock ccc, replaced headers on back last fall
Thanks in advance

Re: Lunati cam

Is your engine flat tappet? or roller cam?
That cam you linked is for a retro-roller setup. Not what you want if yours is a roller cam engine.
If you have a flat tappet engine, you'll have to buy about $500 of additional "retro roller" parts to use that cam.

Re: Lunati cam

Verify it's a roller, then you can probably use it anyways if you're so inclined. You'd have to modify the lock plate By enlarging the center so the cam fits and add a cam button. If you have your heart set on that grind I'd probably call Summit or Lunati and see if they offer it in an OE style setup.

Here's a few Comp cams that are similar:

XR 270HR. More lift so you may need some head mods, but similar duration and a tighter LSA.

What criteria did you go by in picking the cam you did? Just wondering.

Lunati can make any cam you want. There's no reason you can't have this exact grind on a blank/custom core.

Re: Lunati cam

Something like this, but make sure it has the fuel pump lobe if you're staying with the mechanical pump:
http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=2011&gid=289

I know it says LT1/LT4; some of those used the long dowel pin at the nose for Opti drive, so you'd also have to make sure the cam has the short one for your setup. Easy to either replace or cut the long dowel if it comes with that.

BTW, I'd be considering a step or two smaller in duration for a 305 .....unless you have some high-winding plans for it, with lots of other supporting mods!

Re: Lunati cam

The criteria i used was mostly info from this site. most people seem to recommend something in the 214 @.050 range. And the lunati i linked said it was computer compatible. i dont really have my heart set on a certain grind, and definitely no high winding plans for the ol boat anchor. Gears and tq in the near future to match the cam. Just want a fun daily that does better than a 17sec 1/4, and the hands on experience so i can build something better later. my goal is +/- 250 whp. Those cams all look like they have a lot of lift for the stock heads, i thought they maxed out well before .500. I didnt see an lt1 cam with provisions for the fuel pump, it seems like it would be better to find a cam with those provision than to redo the fuel system. But then again im certainly no expert.
maybe more like this?
