burning oil
I had the motor rebuilt in my 87 iroc last year (350 tpi) and my uncle that did it refuses to tell whats wrong. N refuses to fix it. Its been burning a quart of oil a week since the day i got it back. Burns the most when i drive it harder. Its only noticable when im at a idle though, no one will give me a straight answer though. Could it be the rings or valve seals? I do know the lifters are tapping. I really dont want to spend another grand to get the rings done... just put 2600 in the motor lol. Seems to run great. No problems just the dang smoke( light blue)

Re: burning oil
are your spark plugs covered in oil?
one way to tell if its your rings is to do a compression test. then squirt some oil in the plug hole and repeat the test. if your compression reading goes way up, chances are your rings are not sealing.
your seals could be leaking bad?
are you getting any oil spots on the ground when you park?
how come your uncle wont tell you whats wrong?

Re: burning oil
A compression test alone can be hit or miss.Depending on which ring may be letting oil by,it can still have good compression.Look @ the plugs to try to narrow down which cylinder it may be.If you have duals,is it only 1 pipe ? It sounds more like you may have an intake leak or a breather problem of some type.Ck your plugs, then do a leakdown test on the suspect cylinders. If it's blowing a quart a week,it should be pretty evident on the plugs. Also possible that cylinders weren't honed correctly for the type rings being used & they just haven't seated,or that bores were outta tolerance.
