305 TPI roller cam recommendations
Okay long story short.
My sons GTA has a ticking sound which tells me the engine has a bad lifter or a cam lobe going bad.
With that said....
With the car being a 1987 GTA it has a factory roller cam. I'd like some recomendations from you guru's out there for nice replacement street roller cam I can replace it with. Hopefully something along the lines of not having to get the car retuned.
Thanks in advance !

Do an xe grind from comp or similar series from lunati, perhaps the voodoo grinds
Keep it small, i'd say no more than 212 deg duration at .050 on the intake side. Should give alittle more pep and run on stock tune maybe with some afpr and timing mods but really should retune any cam swap
Only thing is you need to verify max lift on the heads. Usually a beehive or thin retainer mod will help get you up near .520-.550" lift on stock head where a typical double spring or some singles will only handle .470-.490"
Could also go cheap and try an LT1 factory cam if your car didnt get the L98 cam from the factory.
Crane powermax 2032 fits stock heads with most conventional double or single springs/retainers. Its better for an L98 tho but could work if you can find one. I wouldnt pay 400$ for it like some places advertise for

So the "stock" LT1 cam would be a direct replacement ?
Cool, let me see what I can find.... The LT1 cam sounds like a great solution and upgrade.

yes, the lt1 cam will fit if its a 94 up you will need to shorten the dowel pin. The problem I have seen causing the tick on roller lifters is the check ball being gummed up in the lifter.

Yeah some auto 305's got the tiny peanut cam. L98's and 5sd 305's got the same cam which is a good deal bigger than that peanut. Lt1 is alittle bigger on lift, durations are similar depending on year lt1. Dirt cheap replacement cam that will give better performance.

The average price for a used lt1 came is $50-75 , you should place a ad in the classified section here and invest in the new lifters , unless you take them all part clean and inspect they maybe worse than what you have now. The one link isn't too bad of a deal but you already have the spider web and dog bones.

What was wrong with the LT4 cam? I have a Hotcam in a 89 and I think its a bit small.

Re: 305 TPI roller cam recommendations
I have used the Elgin E1136 in a few engines.
My Express van has a GM 395' marine cam from the 300 HP 350 Vortec marine engines. Its a cheap cam. About $170.00 straight from Jegs or Summit.
I put a flat tappet Lunati 268 High Efficiency cam in a 305 Vortec that went into a 1999 Tahoe too. Runs very well and has a very mild nature.

Nothing really "wrong" with it.... just curious to know if anyone has other TPI roller cam recommendations....
and sorry but my thread title is wrong... it's a 350 TPI motor.
