ls1 turbo questions
hey guys,
I know that this is a third gen forum, but a lot of people have installed and or researched LS1s.
I have a 99 ss g2, ls6 intake, larger mass airflow sensor, ported throttle body, all of the free mods,
stock cam, stock bottom end. stock injectors and fuel pump. it's ppushing 385 hp as currently set up and tuned.
thinking about building a custom turbo system for the car. I canget all the necessary parts for cheaper then buying a kit. I will change the fuel pump and injectors, and of course have it professionally tuned. I don't want to do any more work to the motor aside from that yet. the problem is I have no idea which trubo to use. I have built several turbo motorcycles, never an ls1. obviously it needs to be low boost, but that can be controlled...... should I get a small turbo the spools faster for lower rpm, or a larger turbo which creates more power in the higher rpm? I would prefer something that gives a boost in the mid range. I plan to mildly drag race the car on the track, but mostly it's a streetcar. I will probably stay around 6 psi. so which turbo should I get? any links?
as for other things people will mention, the drivetrain amd suspension are setup for power. Ihave a t56 that was rebuilt with viper spec internals, has a new stage 2 clutch, hardened input shaft, new u joints, the G2 package adds a lot of performance suspension stuff right out of the box, plus a few addons along the way.
my goal is 500hp, reliably. is that achievable? with a stock cam?
