Is this normal for a coil?
On my build, I installed an external coil - it's a MSD-8226 (you can see it here at Summit Racing).
After I installed it, I noticed that the electrode where you plug the coil wire on is loose, you can spin it around and around, it never tightens up. Not sure if this is normal or if it can/will cause problems eventually?

not normal , return it . I have the same coil . I have been an MSD fan for many years (for longer than many here have lived) . unfortunately they may well be farming some mfg. out to CHINA . with all the stuff now from CHINA they will soon own our country . buy USA if possible (not always possible) . good luck .

What is a good alternative brand to consider, then? Needs to be the same size as I have a mount I made & really don't want to re-do all of that.

I've been running a ACCEL Super Coil for over 6 years now and am in the market to buy something new. My cars basicly stock 5.0 so I'm going to use the AC-Delco unless theres a good reason not to. Maybe it would work well for your application but these guys will have to verify.

a stock replacement AC Delco coil will do just fine... i've also always had good luck with the good Echlin stuff from NAPA..

Ive been burned by enough Accel equipment over the years I wont mess with them anymore. Supercoil and modules...
Ignition seems to be one of those things that the stock stuff is best.

Re: Is this normal for a coil?
I agree with Uncle Tom that MSDs quality has been steadily dropping over the years. I've heard numerous stories of crappy 6As lasting a few weeks before they die, whereas the one I bought thirteen years ago is still going strong. My ICM on my MSD dizzy died after a couple years. Ordered a new one that was bad upon arrival. Cost me a lot of time and money troubleshooting before I found out that the brand new ICM was the culprit.

Re: Is this normal for a coil?
Any idea on what part to look up? My original engine had the large, in-cap coil and I changed it to this external one. I've done some searching, but there are various A/C Delco models that match the MSD one I have and I'm not sure which one is the correct one for my application.
My brother owns a shop so I get a discount at NAPA; if I can figure out the Echlin part number I may go with that one.

Re: Is this normal for a coil?
the coil you linked to at summit looks to be a replacement for like a 92 camaro with TPI.
