Reviving 1987 Pontiac GTA
Hey guys I'm finally getting around to starting to this project I received 8 years ago. I was given a 87 GTA without motor or trans and have been collecting various pieces over the years and finally have the time to do this thing. The car is a Flame Red Metallic exterior with the Carmine interior and is an original 5 speed car. I am in the process of getting my World Class T5 rebuilt as we speak and need help with the engine details. I have a 350 1 pc rear main seal block in the machine shop and will be using stock crank and rods and some Probe forged pistons for the short block. I picked up some 113 Corvette heads yesterday for $250. I need to upgrade the springs for the larger cam and need to know if any machining is required and also need help with selection of a good roller cam. I am thinking about the Comp Cams XFI 260. I also picked up the matching lower intake from the 91 Corvette. I want to use the stock TPI intake set up with porting and I am not sure what the compatibility is. Will the 91 Corvette lower intake accept the fuel rails, runners and plenum from an 89 Camaro TPI? The 87 GTA is a mass air system and I'm not sure if the pieces will exactly work. I believe the Corvette lower intake will work with the Camaro runners and plenum and hope all the stock wiring, sensors match up. Any input would be very helpful.
