Re: 85 camaro rebuilt 400 sbc problems
Sounds like it needed a fuel filter before the new engine, and since the fuel filter didn't get changed in the process of swapping the motor, it STILL needs a new fuel filter.
But hey, you got a 400 out of the deal; so go change the fuel filter and enjoy it.

You can replace the filter.. have fun because the threads are probably seized since who knows when or if it was ever serviced.
If this is a tpi car then connect a fuel pressure test gage to the schrader valve on the fuel rail... have a helper start the car or place the test gage so you can see it from the windshield..
Start the car and observe fuel pressure clogged filter or not... pressure should be steady at start up...give it some throttle, if the needle drops steadily you have a bad fuel pump..
The fact you are having start up issues if the first clue... fuel pumps don't last forever

Re: 85 camaro rebuilt 400 sbc problems
The MAF & TPS trouble codes can be a by-product of a bad fuel pump...
no fuel the ECM thinks it's lean (too much air and throws the MAF code & TPS code)
You will not get a "replace fuel pump code"
of course it does not hurt to check the TPS and MAF sensors to make sure they are in spec... that can be done with a voltmeter and search on this site. because I don't remember what the voltage ranges are.
Test the fuel pump by testing fuel pressure .replace the fuel filter and re-test the fuel pressure if the pressure is still dropping or low.. then you need a news fuel pump... otherwise you are wasting time reaplacing the wrong parts. although first step is make sure wiring to pump is good.. does the pump prime when you turn the key to run? (but not start the ignition) if the pump does not prime or sounds erratic this is anoter clue.

the pump primes when the key is on i havent checked the pressure yet but it squirts out of the line pretty good when i push the nozzle on the rail. i replaced the fuel filter. i also have another question after it runs for about a minute or two the car starts idling faster and faster so i have to shut it off cause it sounds like it wants to blow lol. any suggestions on that

IAC (idle air control) motor... I can't remember it the TPI cars have this..
this went bad on my TBI system (holley projection) but the idle was erratic.. not speeding up.
