Loud Ticking. Help? =/
Car: 1991 Firebird 3.1
Recently changed oil pan due to a huge leak. Bolted new pan up and the leaks stopped. However, once the motor was started it had a loud ticking noise almost as if a rod knock.(Is not though) Only increases during Higher Speeds/RPM's. Sounds to be coming from lower drivetrain area directly under the gas pedal towards the middle of the car. Oil pressure starts out great(aprox. 50 PSI) but once at opperating temperature it dies down at idle and gets worse. Occasionaly there will be a bang when turning over the motor to start her up. I have been chasing problems with this car for the past year and it is beyond frustrating. The car is my DD and I need to have everything fixed out. This is the last of issues I am having until the car is in great running order but I am completely stumped... Any suggestions??

If the noise started right after you performed the oil pan gasket repair, you may have messed up placement of the pan/oil wind screen/sump (depending on what else you did) or the pan is the wrong one for that engine. Did you check to ensure that the new and old pans were exactly the same (or at least had the same clearances)?

Thanks for the quick response.
Yes, I double checked that the oil pans were OEM Specific for my vehicle. Due to the fact that I almost accidently bought a pan for a gran prix/am 3.1. The one I have on is for a 1991 Firebird 3.1. I even checked the measurements with Summit, whom I bought the pan from, and everything was a perfect match. All I changed was the oil pan.
Order of action:
1.) Put car on jack stands
2.) Unbolt motor mounts/exhaust/Old oil pan
3.)Unbolt tranny cross member
4.) lift motor up to remove old pan.
5.) apply gasket/Pan. (Torqued appropriately)
6.) reassembly
Also after the whole assembly I lost heat/Ac. Perhaps I pinched a line or something and that is what is causing all of my issues?
