Chevy 882 Heads?
I have a friend who has a set of these, 194 intake 150 exhaust. Can anyone tell me what I could expect from these heads? and if they're worth the work to bolt on?

I heard they were good flowing heads, but again I'm not an expert on that area, more like I don't know much of anything about it.

Re: Chevy 882 Heads?
They are OK probably the best of the smogger heads. I had a set on my 355 before I went vortec.
They are kinda like getting kicked in the nuts with a sneaker vs a steel toe boot.
They are 76cc chambers so low compression. They also don't flow to well. Personally I would not waste a gasket kit on them unless you wanted a stockish head.
What are your plans for the motor?

Re: Chevy 882 Heads?
Just a weekend toy, is what I had planned on it, the only reason I considered them, is a friend of mine was running a set of 882's on his nova, and it was a 7 second car (note it had port work, and all of that) but he said they were a good head

Re: Chevy 882 Heads?
882 heads are trash along with every other stock casting with the exception of vortec heads. Smog heads are mediocre at best, even with serious port jobs.

Thats ok though hes trying to help you out
They can be picked up some but porting irons not cheap
If hes giving them to you to just drive your car go for it but dont expect big things from them. Shoot beats buying new ones.

Re: Chevy 882 Heads?
I've paid people to come haul off piles of them up from behind my shop.
They have NEGATIVE value: I pay to make them go away. I won't even accept them for free, because then they'll just cost me money to get rid of them.
"Here's a pile of dog plop. Want it? It's free!!"
That's how much I think they're worth.

they dont have negative value. They are worth about $3 each in scrap iron.

How much gas does it take to get em to the yard?
Ends up being negative value, TO ME. Just like somebody leaving a "free" pile of dog plop in my front yard that I then have to clean up.

Is those piles right next to the stacks of Hot Rod Magazine comic books??.

Glad you were able to get $50 for yours though... I guess that's proof that there's always a "greater fool" in the world than whatever any of us already thought possible.
I accumulated piles of them from engine cores that the blocks got used but the heads were worthless; and leftover heads from people who wanted their cars to run better. No comic books here, I'm not a magazine person, in case you haven't noticed; I'm a lot more of a "hands on" type. Thank you for the enlightening suggestion though, and I'm sure everybody thinks you're much smarter now.

Re: Chevy 882 Heads?
Everybody criticizes these heads, but I don't know why. My set has been nothing but reliable. The door rhat they're holding open hasn't moved in years.

That's some pretty strong sentiment right there... care to let us in on the secret of what that's all about?
