oil leak problem

Hey everyone, I'm thinking about buying a 92 firebird v6 automatic, it starts great and sounds great the only problem is while it is running there is a massive oil leak coming from the oil pan. the current owner tells me it is either the oil filter or filter housing but my father doesn't think so. any ideas on what could cause this problem and whether it would be a major problem? thanks for the help.

Re: oil leak problem

Simple-- Old rubber filter gasket still on the filter mount boss.
Valve cover gasket.

PITA-- Cracked // broken dipstick tube.
Oil pan // oil pan gasket.

Bad-- Cracked block // cracked filter mount boss.

Just a lil to think about. I'm sure there may be something more to look at.

Re: oil leak problem

I had an oil leak on my l82 due to an oil passage bolt hole not plugged on the front passenger side. I'd double check that...
