88 camaro won't start

Hi I have a 88 camaro v6 2.8L with 80,000 miles it had a exhaust leak from right passenger side so I fixed it by putting in a gasket. While putting in I think I broke a sensor it's located above the valve covers in the back i dont know what sensor it is either. I didn't pay no attention to it because car ran good after I was done. The car ran good for two days nd now won't star. I changed the ignition control module and the ignition coil cuz was told could be problem. When I turn the key to on I hear the fuel pump come on but when I push down on the needle thats on the throttle body there's no fuel squirts out. Can that sensor be the problem? The car cranks but won't start I tried to get the code but the battery died while cranking and think cleared it only code that flashes is 12? Any ideas on what could be problem

re: 88 camaro won't start

My sister drove the car to work on the third day and the car ran normal. After getting out of work the was stopped at stop light and the car just shut off. When I tried to start the car it was just cranking and the fuel guage was on E so I put about gal in the the tank and tried to start it but nothing just cranking. Is this because of that broken sensor?

re: 88 camaro won't start

the conector (rubber) between the fuel pump and the hard line (in the tank) has a hole in it sending fuel pressure back into the tank instead of up the line , this happened to me I could hear the pump so that cant be the problem rite? WRONG after weeks of fixing the wrong thing and hundreds of dollars in sensors ...... I pulled the tank to confirm this.. change the fuel filter first then hook up a fuel pressure gague but I would bet my mother in laws life on the conector. sorry.

re: 88 camaro won't start

Would I have to pull or open the tank to get to this? The fuel pump has been replaced awhile back. And I replaced the fuel filter about couple months or maybe year ago. How do I check for fuel pressure?

Can that broken sensor have something to do with it? When I touch it it's like a spring type it pushes down, and it smells like gasoline?

I'm not sure what (sensor) you're talking about . could it be the fuel pres regulator. any pics? to ck the pressure remove the fuel line at base of carb or tbi .whitchever you have .. any of the main auto parts stores will let you rent a pressure gague . hook it to the line and crank the engine pressure should read I think about 26 lbs but I'm guessing the needle wont move at all . I'm kinda interested in this broken sonsor now though . is fuel shooting from anywhere?

The broken sensor I took it out and antifreeze started coming out so don't think it has to do with the starting. I will check the pressure

re: 88 camaro won't start

first replace the (sensor) its broken anyway. then give the bat a full charge . then remove the hoseclamp for the rubber corigated air cleaner at the plenim open the throtle by hand spray some fuel in the inteke . NOT STARTING FLUID if the car tries to start its def fuel related . also I didn.t realize you had a x -6 so when checking for pressure just hook the gague to the ( neidle) valve on the fuel rail looks like tire valve.

re: 88 camaro won't start

I had my machanic take a look at the car and he said no spark so we took the distributor cap of off to see if the rotor spins and it isn't spinning so he said it could be the gear at the bottom or the timing in the engine block does this sound right?

re: 88 camaro won't start

wow thats not good. that means that the gear on the dist either fell off . if that happened ite vertually un retrivable and could cause serious damage to the internals . or the timing chain broke first pull the dist . hopefully the gear is just sliping . if so a used dist will fix this problem .If the dist looks good and the gear is still tight then the timing chain is broken or the keyway on one of the timing gears fell out or broke . start by pulling the dist . sounds like you'll be having a mechanic do the job , if so make sure he showes you the problem. not just tell you . there are lots of dis honest mecs over charging ,and charging hundreds for a bad ground wire and telling the cust it was some rediculasly expensive part . just have him keep you in the loop and let me know how it goes I'm curious about this now .

re: 88 camaro won't start

He said the way the car is cranking it might not be anything internal but just a gear on the rotor underneath it but he has to pull it out to see if is that. The car going to get towed to shop either tomorrow or in next few days but will keep u updated. If it is anything internal sister don't want to put that much money in car so if too expensive then sorry to say but it's going to junk yard after I strip for my bros 86 camaro.
