GAS IN CRANK CASE

I have a 87 305 TA with standard carb and it's getting gas into the oil pan some how. I drained oil pan that was full of gas and oil. Took out old oil filter and replaced it with new one. Replaced mechanical fuel pump which had dry lines. I was advised that bad fuel pump was probably leaking gas into the oil pan. After putting five quarts of new oil in motor noticed the dip stik was almost full up to the top, a couple quarts at least beyond the full mark and it reeked of gas....
All of this has happened after I changed the carb to an edlebrock from a rochester because of not running right. After changing it I drove it a couple hundred miles or so and recently smelled gas in the oil and noticed it was over full, so changed the fuel pump. Can't begin to figure how the gas is still getting into the oil. I'll more than appreciate any advise! thanks.

Check your fuel pressure.

Re: GAS IN CRANK CASE

maybe the float in the carb. Are you burning oil or having trouble starting it?

Re: GAS IN CRANK CASE

If this car has a mechanical fuel pump mounted to the engine , replace it ...

Re: GAS IN CRANK CASE

Mechanical on the block could be the fuel pump or your pumping way more into the cylinders than the engine can burn and it is pushing past the rings.

Re: GAS IN CRANK CASE

The only running problem I was having with the engine was that it didn't want to shut off. It spark knocked and would keep running. I was putting it into reverse and turning the key off which would make it quit and then putting it into park. I think that might be a timing problem though, not sure. This gas problem has to be something different because I haven't even turned the motor over since putting new oil in it and the oil was saturated. I remember when I took the lines off the old fuel pump, hearing a gurgling sound. Maybe that is some how siphening gas without even turning the motor over? But the new pump shouldn't be leaking right?
