Re: car bogs under acceleration when cold

Does it get better/worse as the car warms up?

What have you checked so far?

A couple of things that come to mind are the coolant temp sensor. Do you have a way to read ECM data? If so, you would want to look at the ECT data PID and compare it to actual engine temp. If not, you can use an ohmmeter to test the sensor's resistance. It should test at 3500 ohms fully cold(70 degrees), and 180 ohms at operating temp (212 degrees).

Fuel pressure is hard to check on the TBI. I generally start by visually checking injector spray. The spray from each nozzle should be a nice solid cone shape with no open spots. When you snap the throttle, the spray should become fine and strong and touch the sides of the throttle bore. If it seems on the wimpy side or if there are sections missing from the cone, you need to check fuel pressure and either have your injectors serviced or replace them.

Re: car bogs under acceleration when cold

the bogging gets better as the car warms up it usually only does it on the drive in in the morning, such as when i get on the onramp for the interstate sometimes if i get it right i can almost get it to somewhat backfire, the rest of the day its fine, i recently replaced the coolant temp. sensor, i wonder if all the cold air with an open element is contributing to it, i have bosch plugs in it now witch is causing a slight misfire but i just picked up some declo plugs from the gm dealership i work at gonna slap them in this weekend. i have a blaster coil so i think im gonna set the gap to .40 the car also smells like its running rich sometimes i really want to get it tuned but i cant find anywhere around here to do it. i have no way to view the data unfortunately however id like to get my hands on a tech1, ive also recently replaced the fuel filter. thanks for replying so soon guys
