Rough idle help
Hey there i got a 89 iroc 305 auto. car has no check engine lights. It starts up great but every now and then it will just click a few times then fire up(Don't know if that's related to the problem). The idle goes up and down at a idle mostly in drive from about 5xx to about 8xx and is quite noticeable as the car shakes. I really have no idea what it could be since i just changed a bunch of parts like the fuel filter, WHOLE distributor, MAF, ECU so im out of ideas help me out guys Btw the rough idle is pretty much gone in N and Park...

Re: Rough idle help
i switched over to carb to avoid all that bs and never had a regret, since you did your dist. how's your timing? is your fuel filter flowing in the correct direction, and also did it act like this before you did all this?

Re: Rough idle help
the clicking before starting, your connections on your starter might need to be cleaned up and checked, also your solenoid can be crappin out on you, or if its doing it when its hot your coils inside your starter are binding not letting it turn over(i had that problem when my starter would get to hot) but that doesn't sound like thats your problem. I'd start with the simple stuff for the idling problem, vacume lines, pcv valve, or maybe even o2 sensors, but since your check engine light isn't coming on that makes it tougher to figure out with all the electronic possibilities "obviously", it could also be throttle position sensor but i'm not too sure about that, hopefully one of the tpi guys can help you out more then i can, good luck

Re: Rough idle help
i just got a hold of my 4th 3rd gen. my first tpi car. im having the same issue with 5.7 auto. but mine does it in nuetral and in park but bounces from 700 to 900 rpm. in drive bounces from 550 to 800 rpm timing is exactly 6 deg. checked all vacuum lines no leaks. its also running super rich all stock motor and gettin 8 mpg. really need help if anyone has ran into this problem. my wallet cant candle the wasted fuel. oh yea btw no codes. been drinking it around with my snap on red brick scanner plugged in.

Re: Rough idle help
I would try the oxygen sensor(s), a bad oxygen sensor will make for bad air fuel mixture, which can result in bad gas mileage, rough idling, or a misfire feeling and hesitation, also follow wires from the sensors to check for unplugged, cracked, freyed wires, and just a tune up like spark plugs, cap n rotor, etc. cleaning dirty connections will also help from misleading problems, auto parts stores carry electric component cleaners, and also if needed and not on a sensative part can be sprayed and cleaned with a wire brush. I'm surprised none of the tpi guys are on this, look for other threads with these symptoms it's probally already been covered

Re: Rough idle help
Another thing that i noticed is when driving at around 80 or higher speeds and if i lightly touch the gas my rmp will flicker quite a bit which i can only get past by giving more gas or not touching the gas at all
