What do you guys think about this?
So recently I have been looking deeply into engine projects this fall... I am sure a few of you have seen a couple threads I have opened about it.
I was looking at doing a roller conversion for my block, big cam, alum heads, springs, rollers etc..the whole deal...basically rebuild it for a 450-500CHP motor.
All in all it's going to be about a $2000 project.
But today I was recommended to call a very well known local engine shop in town that I had heard work of before.
After 45min phone call with the owner he had me fully convinced....
He brought up the many things I was going to run into with further building up my 350...mostly that past the point that I already have it built up...driveability is going to start dropping very quickly...
He bid me $4000 w/install for a built crate, blueprinted, forged, 383 Stroker that would put my numbers around ~500CHP-450TQ
Also would be nice because I could literally keep my car up and going for shows this summer, then when they had the engine ready put it in the shop for about 2 weeks while they do the swap.
This would mean I sell my 350...on this topic... how much do you think its worth/what should I ask for it? (see sig)
Opinions/thoughts... Thank you guys as always.

$2000 to rebuild your motor and buy aluminum heads? No way.
$4,000 for a 500 horse crate motor with installation... now that's a deal.

it could be a good deal if its all in writing and guarateed,...and built with quality parts.
whats going with your motor when you sell it? complete? or are you keeping the carb, intake, etc?
i agree, alot of gen 1 sbc stuff is getting pretty cheap these days.
if your gonna sell your motor, id list it as soon as you start the project. people want to hear a motor run. i wouldnt buy a motor i couldnt hear run first, unless it was for parts. so if they hear it run, youll get more money. JMO. you can run it on a stand for a few seconds. heres a lil vid for giggles. maybe the engine builder will buy it too? if its a complete running engine, id say $800.oo is a fair starting point.
