Whine without supercharger?

I noticed my car, 305 tpi, has a whine when I really get on it. I noticed this whine after I bought a new belt and pulley for the car so I could bypass the smog and a/c pump, but still have them on the car incase I need to pass emissions. Any ideas what it could be?

could be caused by a lot of things. it may be a bad bearing in one of the driven components like your alternator or PS pump. a good thing to have, and you can get them at most parts stores is an automotive stethoscope. usually pretty cheap too. looks like your dr.'s stethoscope except it has a long rod that you place against engine components to listen for what ever.

Re: Whine without supercharger?

I just use a screwdriver, no need for all that fancy equipment. They sound fine internally, I just thought it was weird that my old belt was quiet aside from a waterpump squeek when the car is cold, maybe the old belt was loose and now that the proper tensioned belt was put on it is showing the problem that has always been there? I'll just wait until something stops working, most likely the power steering...

the stethoscope i have costs $12.00. i was a believer in the screwdriver method too until i tried the stethoscope. i also use the "wait till it fails" technique. only on my car though. i have to stay ahead of the repairs on the wife-mobile. lol.

Hehehe my gf has a 69 RS and is also quite the car enthusiast, it's hard to get her to not touch my car lol. So I'll stick with my screwdrivers and waiting until it fails.

Pull the belt off and see if its a acc causing the problem. If the noise stops with the belt off you have narrowed it down. If its still there yo may have a trans pump going bad.
I'd check the power steering fluid level 1st tho.

I know it's an accesory because I ran the car without a belt on it and it was quiet, just need to narrow down the accesory, I'll check the PS fluid when it's light out. T5's have pumps?

Re: Whine without supercharger?

do you remember what size belt you used to bypass the a/c and emissions? and did you use a a/c deleter pulley or just bypass it? i have a 305 and looking to delete both of these. thanks
