Wanna test your Solenoid Valve on your Charcoal Canister (EECS)

Has anyone ever wondered if the solenoid on the charcoal canister works? I took the opportunity to post up some pictures so that anyone can reference to. These pictures and info comes directly out of a GM 1986 Camaro Shop Manual.

This stuff is gold!!, exactly what I was looking for. I wonder if it would be different kind of testing for the later models' canister/solenoid style...

Re: Wanna test your Solenoid Valve on your Charcoal Canister (EECS)

This is great. I was looking for the configuration to hook my system back up to get rid of the fuel vapor smell after shutting off the vehicle and reduce fuel tank pressure. Sunday project at the Acura dealership. Good thing I have free access to the shop.

Thanks, by the way, I was wondering if you know anything about the AIR inlet on the top of the canister, mine has a cap on it and I was wondering if it should be open or kept close with the cap...?

There should be a hose there. Check out this post that I made. It'll describe the vaccum lines for you. Just search for the one that corresponds to your engine.

Okay man, here is your setup, which is the same as above, except for the ventilation valve. Your vent valve should be on the cap while the earlier years have the venting valve on a hose which is connected to the sending unit.

I looked at the diagrams, and it seems that the inlet that I mentioned its just a vent with no line attached to it, the question is if it should have a cap on it or not? mine has a cap on it but I'm not sure if its should stay on...

I think that cap gets removed and a U hose connects from there to the other fitting next to it. But I could be wrong. I don't know. Google it. Type in evap, the year, and engine and hope fully you'll get a good picture.

I didn't see anything, and even on the diagram it shows it but nothing connected to it, the only question is if the cap should stay off or on...I cannot seem to get someone that knows something about it

Okay man. Disregard the PM's I sent you. I went to a very good site about TPI systems (Chevythunder.com) and I found this on that site. This is your TPI setup with the vacuum line diagram. Now you know what and how it is routed. As for the cap, I assume that a little foam filter goes there. Ive never seen one though so perhaps if you copy the picture and make a new thread in the General Engine board, someone can help verify what you may be missing.....

Thanks. I really appreciate it. Now I just have to wait till tomorrow and order the new fuel cap from GM and then reinstall the evap canister. Again, I really appreciate it.
