bouncing when taking off in first
ok so today while i was driving my 86 firebird s/e it started bouncing the entire car when i was trying to take off in first. This car has a 2.8 and a 5 speed manual. i have no idea why its doing it and i hope its nothing too seriouse..but i have also noticed that if i drive the car and shut off go into the store and come back out and start it up again it idles rough and very low like it wants to die..anyone got any ideas on what these things could be?

If you take off fast from a stop does it sound like something going "thump" through the floorboards? If so you have a ripped transmission mount. These cars are NOTORIOUS for shredding transmission mounts. Looks fine just sitting at rest but push up hard on the tranny tailshaft and the whole dransmission will lift off the transmission crossmember.
Yes, even the V6 cars. I had a 91 Camaro with the 3.1 and an automatic that ate 2 tranny mounts in 5 years.
If it's not that you have engine or possibly clutch issues. More likely clutch if it only does it taking off from a dead-stop. It's also possible it's a clutch AND a trans mount issue working together to make your 1st gear starts a misery. Check the trans mount first, go from there.

Re: bouncing when taking off in first
well its more of a ratteling of the entire car more than it is a bounce, sorry for using the wrong wording lol. it doesnt do it all the time but only a great once and a while. but other than that i dont hear any thuds under the floor boards. and it only does it if i take off slowly, if i bring the rpms up high then it wont do it.

I had a 302 fox mustang with a wc t5 and had this problem. Flywheel looked like a potato chip.

Re: bouncing when taking off in first
It could be a bunch of things but that same POS mustang had a bad ground and did that same thing. Start it up ran hard and good, hit a bump it would have 0 power and some times die. Pull over start it up and it would just do that over and over.
Not sayen thats what it is just somthin that has happend to me.
