can anyone help me decode my engine block casting number?
well this is irritating, i found my casting numbers, cleaned it up, and u cant see all the numbers not sure what to do now, the engine was swapped into it (its a 1982 camaro) and its supposedly a 350, if you need the cars vin number i can post it up, any help is greatly appreciated! i want to know where this engine came from, thanks!

from what i can decode on the engine ID code its a from a 58 or 59 truck? big block 348 CID, 230 horsepower
at least thats what i found on this website nastyz28.com, the only stamp ending in a T is what i mentioned above
also from that website it looks like V = flint, 1? would be the month and the 22 would be the day, so i can assume it was made in either october, november, or december
the partial vin code i have no idea where to start on it

That's not a casting number.
That's a stamping code; as you've already found, worthless.
This is a casting number.
Conveniently located in the most accessible place on the whole engine; top of the bell housing flange, behind the driver's side head.

Get that number and we can tell you what size engine (or at least, bore) you have.

alright ill try and find it in the morning, someone else told me to check back there so i just kinda checked it out real quick and i culd tell it wasnt gonna be fun finding it lol

According my research that's either a '68 327 or '69-'79 350 2 or 4 bolt main from car, truck, vette.

Yeah the 010 block is probably the single most common 4" bore block in existence, so you know you have a 302, 327, or 350, or possibly a 383. Odds are better than 90% though, that it's a 350.
Doesn't matter what vehicle it came out of. They're all the same (except that some had 4-bolt main caps installed on them, FWIW - which is pretty much nothing). The wrinkles in the sheet metal don't affect anything at all about the block.

From all those numbers you've shown, my best guess is that it's a replacement engine. Someone bought an engine at one time that was already rebuilt. Looks like it was stamped by a machine shop for they're own tracking purpose. None of those look like production numbers. Th0se last pictures you took look like a plate that's been glued to the block. Not that any of that means anything.
As mentioned above, you have an 010 block which means it's a 4" bore. Although there's always a possibility of it being a 327, it's unlikely it will be a 302 and it's highly likely it's just a 350. Since it looks like it's been rebuilt, it probably has at least a .030" overbore making it a 355.
Without the original stamped numbers on the pad in front of the passenger side head, you'll never know exactly what it came out of. It's an 010 casting. When ordering parts for it, just say it's a late 70's 350 out of a pickup truck.
