87 IROC Choke Relay Wiring???

G'Day!,
I'm having a little problem with the choke heater relay in my 87 IRCOC. I have a CHILTON'S manual 82-92, and a HAYNES manual 82-92. they both have alot of wiring diagrams and they are both different in some areas. Also have DL some diagrams of the net which also differ.

As i live in Australia the car has been converted to R/H drive. This was done by a company who imported the car back in 1992. My dad bought the car in 1993 as the first owner and the only things he has touched since he had it are , remove the AIR system. and retro-fitted a bigger Alternator.

So my problem is the choke relay located inbetween the battery and strut tower. (books and internet say it should be in the comand centre., under the dash) the relay has 4 wires Black, Blue, Brown/White, Tan/White.

Black - goes to earth point
blue - is spliced and goes to the choke coil and ?? i can remember
Brown/White - goes to the alt(3 wire plug -brown,brown/white, black/red)
Tan/White - to the C100 plug terminal C4

All my diagrams have no pin out at C4 ???? except manuals. mines an auto.

Oh My VIN is 1G1FP21H3HL131786.
which as i take it a California built 4BBL 305 / Th700r4.

As there arnt many 3rd gen F bodys around my part of town its hard to compare. Any help would be great

Pistol.

Re: 87 IROC Choke Relay Wiring???

Hey AussieIroc, welcome to the boards, there's a few of us skippys lurking around here! If your car was originally carbed, the choke relay should be in the convenience centre. Sounds like another relay may have been spliced in place of it for some reason, maybe before the car was imported even.

What's the problem - no choke operation?

Re: 87 IROC Choke Relay Wiring???

All the choke wiring is stock never touched or cut. As Ive read it should be in the convenience centre but it is not. Have read a post from another who also had the relay where I stated. ??? I'm I'm the process of re-wiring the engine and all the diagrams for choke relay are three wire ones. Two brown and lt blue. Mine are lt blue, tan/white, brown/white and a black earth. I assume that if the relay was in the congruence centre they may have a common earth and not show the black wire? Also the alternator plug has different coloured wires to any wiring diagram??? The car isnt running atm, but should have it up and goin on Sunday. I was just goin to leave it out??? Until I know where all the wires go.
