4th Gen Plastic tank...in an 84 with a carb motor

I had an idea after I discovered paper thin (was no resistance to my probing, hole in the tank now) metal on my original gas tank. In place of getting a good tank from Classic Industries (I'm not playing with that Spectra crap after what I heard about them) why not get a 4th gen plastic gas tank and use that instead.

My questions in relation to that idea are:

can I still use a third gen sending unit, so I don't have to do much wiring? I am replacing the sending unit if I'm replacing the tank.

Can I use the 4th gen plastic tank with a carb motor as I'm putting in a 383 stroker with a carb?

Can I use my original gas tank straps?

What about the lock ring and gasket?

Finally, what about the fuel lines because I heard that 4th gen cars have plastic fuel lines. Can I use third gen metal lines with the plastic gas tank?

I had the idea because the back half of the 3rd and 4th gen cars are pretty much interchangeable as far as the chassis goes.

Also while I'm here...I asked this elsewhere, but with the carb motor can I use any 3rd gen sending unit regardless of the wiring code on the harness? Most sending units I'm finding are for FI cars. I might mod it to a manual pick up.

Thanks folks.

Do a search, many people have done this swap already and I know at least one has alot of pictures to help.

the sending units are not interchangeable, so you must use the 4th gen unit
same goes for lock ring and o-ring
you can use the 4th gen tank on a carbed setup, but you have to use the 4th gen pump, so you'll have to figure out how you want to power it
straps should work fine
if you dont want to use the plastic lines, you can make braided lines with adapters to go between the sending unit and the factory metal lines. since you've got a high pressure pump in the 4th gen tanks, clamps will not suffice here.

Re: 4th Gen Plastic tank...in an 84 with a carb motor

I did right after I posted that. Obviously can be done. If I'm gathering this correctly, it sounds like I can run a 97 Grand Prix sending unit which reportedly fits and runs 0-90 ohms. Eliminate the regulator, and either run a manual pick up or a factory in tank pump. retaining the factory third gen lines is a matter or running hosing from the sending unit to the lines. No more different than original. However, I might just run a metal tank anyway, due to difficulty trying to locate an LS1 F body tank. Not to mention, less work for me as I'll retain an original set up.

The reason why I posted it before searching was (as I figured) most of them were FI swaps. I didn't expect to find much with a carb setup using the pump at the block.
