How do i get that true muscle car rumble?

I have a 91 Rs Camaro TBI and I went to a car show today and all the car's had that great muscle car rumble. I was just wondering how would i get that rumble in my car without completely changing my motor (305 tbi). The sound i mean is like this video at 0:31

To get a cam large enough to give that loud rumble requires more than just a cam swap. You'll need new springs, computer return, a stall if you want it to perform well. You meed to get a cam for the performance not for the sound.

Hold on there guys. Am I the only one who has not forgotten about the ECM? If you add a cam that is too radical, you will lose vacuum. When you lose vacuum, your Camaro will not run correctly at all because of the PROM's programming. The air/fuel ratio will be so far off that you may have trouble just starting the Camaro. I know this is true for my 86 IROC, but for a 91 RS, Im certain that you'll run into serious idling issues aswell as drivability.

Subjective but stainless duel 2 1/2, duel cats or stainless 3inch with magnaflow + headers will make it sound nice. Good crisp tune will have a really nice note under revs and not give you a headache. It wont sound like this, but in my opinion it will sound nicer.

LT1 cam, free flowing exhaust and some form of chambered muffler(s)

hmm i do believe that edelbrock makes a cam called thumper for 305's that has a mild lope. You could mill a gear drive for timing that has a mean sound but than knock sensor gets angry.

Re: How do i get that true muscle car rumble?

why would anyone even bother to try to have a low compression sbc 305 sound like the old muscle cars, you might get it to sound similar with a new exhaust and a cam designed to give a lopey idle but the sound is about all youll get for the expense,
why not build a 10:1 compression 383 with a few decent components and actually produce some useable horsepower & torque easily doubling what the average 305 produces to match that sound?
really it doesn,t take that much, just some research, time, collect some parts and assemble them and swap engines some weekend, you might be amazed at what can be accomplished if your willing to persistently and regularly put $100-$150 into a long term project and hit some swap meets, do some research, etc.

Re: How do i get that true muscle car rumble?

I agree with Grumpyvette. But an exhaust is still worth putting together. I have dual 2 1/4 inch exhaust on my 305 LG4 with some Hedman long tubes and some cheapy summit glass packs. No crossover yet, but it sounds good and rumbly. Its really mellow if you keep it below 2k, but above 3k it just belts out that small block song. I have a Vortec 350 on the engine stand, waiting for an intake and distributor.

Save you dollars and put together a decent engine that will make that rumbly sound for good reason. Otherwise you are no better than a Honda with an exahust tip that buzzes

Re: How do i get that true muscle car rumble?

I asked why stainless because I have 3 1/2" stainless tips that came with the car. They seem to have a nice tone due to being stainless. I have stock manifolds, and a flowmaster cat back w/stainless tips. It has a nice drone I can hear. To loud for some, but not too loud for me.

You don't have a nice tone because the tips are stainless, you have a nice tone because you have an aftermarket cat-back. Stainless is recommended because it will not rust like plain carbon steel or even other alloys. It costs a bit more up front but will be cheaper in the long run due to its corrosion resistance and looks better.
