Step 1 to working on any car....Buy a repair manual.

If you can get a Factory Service Manual, you'll pretty much never need another one. Or take the easy way out & buy a Chiltons. Just be ready for a lot of misinformation in there. Haynes is a lot better, just not as common to find. I honestly don't know how Haynes stays in business sometimes.

Step 2:
Dont use the access panel and drop the tank. It is a PITA.....but thats the right way.

The Access Panel is the right way (not the factory way, but still the "right" way) & correcting a Factory flaw that some car makers figured out later & stared installing in their cars.

If you like doing a 6+ hr pump swap, go ahead & do the tank drop method. Once the Access Panel mod is done, it is an under 30 min job from there no out to do then next time it fails. Like 5 min. after your done & find out that the parts store sold you a dead pump. Been there, done that like many others.

yes but the new cars where made and designed for it

not exactly the same as cutting a big hole where one didnt exist before

So thanks to the help of the local VIP it is in. But the problem I'm having with my fuel pressure is not fixed. That just leaves the relay. A little help locating it would be good?

5 years later, zero reinforcement & I have zero problems. Not even in the corners (not round cuts...90 degree cuts). Hell, there was never even a cover made. Just the carper covering the open hole!

So much for "designed for it" being a plausible argument for it being safe and/or strong if the car was designed or it.

I don't wana be that guy buuuuuut doing things the correct way here is much much better, faster? No.

Can it be done to be safe? Of course it can but I see and hear of waay 2 many hack jobs. Hard lines cut with a cutofff wheel hacksaw or a sawzall contaminating the lines (then not cleaning it out) and non flared hard lines with hose (not fuel inj rated) and clamps that can blow off the High psi line. Leaving the hole open, thats not a good idea esp if you develop a exhaust leak.
Very few have the time, money or tools to make a access hatch and proper fittings 4 the hard lines.
Just do things correctly. Itll develop good habits an will show with everything else you do to your car.

Oh and buy a factory service manual...

You just description what I did. Except I used a hacksaw to cut the lines. I plan on flaring it tomorrow. I just ran out of time today. And what is worse is it wasn't the problem
