Small Fuel Tank under hood? (Name that part)
Hey guys,
I am having problems starting my car (have a thread for that) and i think i narrowed it down to one specific part along the fuel line. There is a cylindrical container between the windshield washer fluid and headlight that connects a fuel line (coming from tank i assume) to the carburetor. After pulling the throttle to check the carb and fuel line from that container it turns out that the fuel never actually leaves that container. I can however smell it in there, and it's simply not reaching the carb like it should.
It has a label on it saying Fuel Tank, but I was wondering if there was a specific name for it and if you guys have it in your cars as well, also if you know how I can test to see if it works and what it does in general. I have a 383 swap that was performed by the previous owner's mechanic.
Please and thank you. If you guys need it, i can try and take a photo but it's very hard as i don't have a camera.

That is a charcoal cannister, it's part of your evaporative emissions system. It is designed to scrub the fuel vapor coming from the tank.

No, no affect on it at all. If you aren't getting fuel it is a pump or a filter problem.
