New High Zinc oil

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/zrt.aspx

Amsoil has a knew "Z-rod" oil which is high in zinc and made just for flat tappet cam motors. I will definatly be using it. Any comments or thoughts?

Re: New High Zinc oil

you can walk into any store and buy break in oil [same thing], or get a bottle of STP or ZDDP for reg oil.

no pushy salesmen to deal with.

As bad as a vacuum cleaner salesmen, if you ever had one of them scamsoil guys give you the hard press as you try and get gas. [They hang out at gas station just like the beggers looking for suckers]

Anything sold in pyrmid fashion is a scam.

Sell it at autozone like a legit company.

Re: New High Zinc oil

that link has nothing to do with me selling it unless your gonna come to my store and buy it that link does not benefit me at all. Was just trying to be helpful and show a new oil which i thought was good but damn apperantly not. I suppose if i post a napa link or summit link its just a scam to try and make me money?

You're barking up the wrong tree, Gumby. You can't "walk in to any store" and buy the "same thing".

I've been using AMSOIL products since 1983, with enough use of other brands from time to time to appreciate the differences. This is an excellent product for those who still have flat tappet lifters.

Personally I no longer have an engine in the "fleet" with flat tappet lifters. When I did, before they came out with this line, I used their SL-rated 5W-30 diesel oil with excellent results.

"Regular oil" is another way of saying "oil that will wear out your engine sooner". As for additives, there isn't a "regular oil" manufacturer out there that would condone using any additive with their oil.

Re: New High Zinc oil

Shell Rotella-T was always know for being good oil with enough zinc in it. Even their 15w40 diesel oil has had a lot of the zinc cut back. The majority of the off the shelf motor oils have all changed how much additives they put into the oil.

I still run Rotella-T in my diesel pickup and have Royal Purple synthetic in the race car engine. Regardless of any oil life claims, I still live by "dirty oil reduces the life of an engine" and any oil inside a running engine will get dirty. Change the oil and filter at least every 3000 miles and the engine will last for a long time. The race car gets an oil change once a year but that's because of other factors, not mileage.

Re: New High Zinc oil

I did some research on the zddp issue. Yes, STP has it in it, but they will not disclose how much. Rotella has 1200 ppm of zddp, which is a little more than SF rating. Walmart heavy duty diesel, has 1300 ppm of zddp. These would be good, and cheaper alternatives.
