BBC swap cam choices
Hello Thirdgen this is my first post on here.
i've been following boobooseans BBC swap exhaust idea(great info btw).
I'm using dyno2000 to choose a cam for my 454 and want to know
what you guys think will work best for my set up.
my set up is...
a short deck mark4 454 4 bolt block.
heading to my local machine shop my next day off of work.
aftermath of the shop will be 4.35 bore with stock stroke.
781 heads(I'm quite proud of how i thought of getting them)
i just told auto-zone i needed heads for a 71 Chevelle and got a set
of re-manufactured for cheap(although they shipped them separate, very annoying).
on top of .021 copper gaskets at 4.38 bore
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SCE-013382/
i'll be running domed pistons at 26cc
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/UEM-KB227-100/
theoretical compression of 11 to 1(let me know if my math is off)
---first question-are my valves gonna smack these pistons?
first cam kit is
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
second is
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
one is more expensive and i'm not loaded, but 80 bucks is insignificant in any build.
current intake set up is a performer dual plane and a holley 780.
i want to know which cam is gonna move my 2800pound before engine 85 camaro better.
currently the car has 3.42 gears, tire hight is just over 26 inches.
I'll be gearing it and buying a converter depending on my cam choice.
this is gonna be my semi-daily driver running s10 steering box and no ac.
if anybody wants my dyno2000 files let me know.

Re: BBC swap cam choices
Ditch the copper head gaskets. They'll leak unless you get the block and heads o-ringed. Use a MLS gasket from Cometic or Felpro instead.
Most aftermarket dome pistons have more than enough valve relief for bigger cams but piston to valve clearance is more than just the lift. The cam timing when the valves open or close will determine how much clearance you have. You can have a high lift cam with lots of clearance and a lower lift cam that sill smack the valves. The only way to know for sure is to install everything and check clearances. If the valve clearance isn't enough, you can advance or retard the cam to change the timing or have all the pistons flycut for more clearance. Neither of those cams should be a problem as they're both on the mild side for a BBC.

Re: BBC swap cam choices
How accurate would these dyno 2000 numbers be? I've been told not to be surprised if its more like 500 HP. And my uncle said I should rev higher than that with a 4 inch stroke and roller cam
