Cloyes timing chain question
Does the Cloyes 9-3100 timing chain fit the factory roller (87 & up) SBC blocks?
Summit says it will fit only code G and H engines. What does this code G and H mean?

Re: Cloyes timing chain question
The codes are the 8th digit of the car's VIN and describe which motor it is.
G = L69 (HO carb 305)
H = LG4 (low-perf carb 305)
The 3100 set fits LOTS of other engines besides those; however those, and the LU5, are the only ones that came in these particular cars that it is the right one for. It's the set for any flat-tappet or "retrofit" (original type) roller. Basically it is for every Chevy small-block V8 (262.5, 265, 267, 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350, 400) from 1955 to 1986; and lots of them after that as well, in other chassis.
The 3136 is the one for the 87-up "factory roller" type cams.
If you're looking for a timing set for a 6-cyl, then I have no clue what its number is; but I'm fairly sure a V8 set won't fit it.

Re: Cloyes timing chain question
Thanks for the information. I was looking for a timing set for a V8.
By the way, 3136 is not the Comp Cams part number? The proper Cloyes one seems to be the 3145 for me.

The double roller cloys will fit the block only with clearancing. You will need to grind down teh ends of the lifter oil gallies for it to clear.
If your using a roller block, you can also use the stock GM single roller. Im using the single roller on mine, and it works quite well and fits with no modifications. It comes with a single roller, heavy duty timing chain.
