396?
Perhaps a built 396SBC (or 383SBC) in lieu of 350SBC (built up of course) l) if the V6 ever DIES (?) and its time to get extreme, fast little mustang-eater out of the 84 camaro.
For now, its a daily driver and i like the way it sounds. But i see mustangs and certain camaros, and think, "Wow, i wonder what motor that is."
Ho do yall like 396s (built of course) for a Third en? had a co-worker reminiscing abut an ugly car with A 396 in it" that would "Just GO." I liked the way he described it.. and im intrigued.
Also, sounds like Chevy is the choice, not a Pontiac or Olds engine,, ? Didnt Oldsmobile or Pontiac MAKE ALL THE ENGINES under old, "Do everything," "money losing" joke of 80s and 90s GM .. that still exists today, just hidden in secret? lol

Re: 396?
By the late 70's or early 80's GM stopped producing brand specific engines. They standardized the platform with one brand of engine. Pontiacs, Olds, Buicks all got a GM (Chev) engine. Caddy was about the only one that still had a specific engine (Northstar). Many purists who only owned B-O-P vehicles were not happy but it's the cost of doing business efficiently. Times have changed and with so many cross platform vehicles, it's hard to tell what a specific vehicle is any more. Just because it says Chev, Ford etc on an emblem doesn't mean that's what it really is.
There's nothing stopping you from installing a Pontiac or Olds engine into a third gen. Many have already done it but using a Chev engine is much easier and cheaper.
Your co-worker's 396 was probably an old BBC 396. Not the same thing. Having a displacement doesn't say very much. You could say you're got a 400 under the hood. Chev, Ford and Dodge all made 400's. Modern engine displacements may be the same as older engines but they're nowhere close to being the same engine.
