Questions about an engine rebuild kit

The only way for me to learn is to do it myself . I have plans on swapping out my 305 with a 350.
My questions are about this engine rebuild kit i looked up on summit.

Would this work the stock bore from a 1989 SBC?

Re: Questions about an engine rebuild kit

hey bro... i'll answer your question with another question...

do you have tpi already? This kit is for the L98 tpi motor. You would need a 350 tpi which you could score from jupiter if he wants to sell it and if you wanted to go that way..You could just throw the tpi gaskets away and use the rest of the kit. You also may be able to score the harness, computer and other various parts too which you would need if you wanted tpi. Injectors and sensors you should buy new.

With that said all the low end stuff would work without a hitch bro... However.... you would prob want to hot tank the block if your getting the one from Zane for a bill.... If you get the tpi stuff i can polish it up for you for a small price if you want...

in addition your gunna wanna replace the crank, cam shaft and lifters which aren't included in that package....

And... have you done everything else needed to preform this swap suspension wise? springs mainly... front and rear... maybe sway bars...

Re: Questions about an engine rebuild kit

haha andrew, you read my mind.
Thats the plans i had in mind, except for the TPI; Im wanting to get a SD setup and stay away from MAf. repinning my harness would be a pain.

so everything should fit how it is?

suspension wise, iv only gotten rear adj, drag shocks and new front struts.
as for the swringstheir actually working fine. to fine. my front end is too high.

the reason i need as engine swap and rebuild is because iv already over heated my engine twice. Im sure that isn't good

Re: Questions about an engine rebuild kit

just because you've over heated it doesn't mean that motor is gone ... here's my opinion.... drive that thing and gather everything your going to need to do a swap... THEN... once you have everything you need to do the swap start getting the chasis ready for the motor and at the same time rebuild the 350 motor or bore it and stroke it to 383... this way when your 305 dies your ready for the final stages of the swap... just pull the 305 and drop in the 350 tpi and harness and in a couple days be back on the road... now keep in mind that the chip will need to be programmed which mike on here can help you with.. it runs about 200 not including the new chip and parts you'll need for it to work... that 200 though... well worth it... so is the engine priming tool by the way..

Thats my opinion however..... i would figure out why your over heating now so you don't take that into the new motor... check fans... sensors and relays ... somethings not right there and needs to be looked at ASAP.... you could save that 305 and make it go a long way before encurring a 4000 swap bill give or take...

Re: Questions about an engine rebuild kit

i know why it's over heating. I keep burning out my coolant and blower motor fuses. I pulled up my error codes; it's reading high system voltage.
I had the Alt. and battary checked out to see if their over charging; which wasn't it

Im sure i won't end up spending around 4K.
Im going to attempt to do it myself, because i enjoy playing with my car and it's the only way i'll learn.

And drew, im not trying out for the power a 383 pumps out. im just trying to get around 230hp

Re: Questions about an engine rebuild kit

jeez dude a stock l98 tpi puts out 295 hp... Remember that whatever block you buy will prob need to be rebuilt it and you never wanna reuse the crank, cam, lifters, pistons, and rings. Its easier still to send the block out to a machine shop and have it hot tanked and redecked... thats what will cost you some money along with the previously stated parts...

I'd reuse any of those things if they were in good shape and measured out ok.
