Packaging mistake on King Engine bearings part
I bought a set of king engine bearings awhile back, and the rod bearings have a chamfer for cranks with large radius journals. I have a standard stock cast iron crank, which doesnt need the chamfers. But, they sent me two sets of upper rod bearings, so when installed, the chamfer for the lower half of the rod bearing is on the inboard side of the rod. The other side of the bearing is the same as a stock one, so it doesnt cause any interference issues. Can I still run these like this? Cant return them, and Im running out of cash to finish the build.
I cant see it causing any problems using them, but is there any possible issue to running them like this?

Hmm, boy I gotta tell ya that makes me uncomfortable.
Not something I would do on a customers build.
For my own it would depend on the severity of service, ease of access & if it is to be the only DD.
IOW I might try it in a pinch on my own non critical build, any other & I need the right parts.
Issues are, top shell on the bottom if any grooving, & parting line mismatch (could affect oil sling, create tiny tight or hot spot).
Thats all that comes to mind right now, these engines are very forgiving when built & operated conservatively.

FWIW, both the top and bottom shells for a SBC are the same before machining with a chamfer on one side for the radius. My concern is that the chamfer already decreases the footprint of the bearing, and possibly having them on both sides could reduce it even farther by allowing the oiling at the outer edges of the bearings to break down.

Ya Imma tryin, to say mostly the same thing, groove alignment & oil control, how big of a chamfer are the bearings cut for?

Decent size, at least 3-4% of the bearings footprint is reduced by the chamfer. I guess Im going to have to bite the bullet and buy another set. They better send me both halves this time around...

Actually, I think summit packaged them using king as a supplier. I bought them a LONG time ago as the summit in-house brand, and the reciept is long gone, so, theyre mine, now. It didnt occur to me at the time to check to seee that the chamfer is in the right place. The boxes where just white and unlabeled.
