Is this oil pump mis-machined?
I bought a melling select, and the inlet ID for the oil pickup tube is .616" with a small step inside the inlet where the tube of the pickup presses in. Obviously they are a press fit, but the OD of the pickup tube itself at the pump is .622". That seems like a hell of a press fit to me. Seems like if I could provide enough force, it would split the pump body. What are the right IDs for the pump housing inlet bore?

I think your best option is to email the mfg with this question.

Actually, I just found a video from melling. It really is a .006" int. fit. So, its just a matter of using the tool and some hammering.
