Fuel Gauge Way Off

I haven't had my car for very long, but when I got it, the fuel gauge was working just fine. Then, the other day I noticed my fuel gauge was full and not moving, even after driving almost 50 miles. In fact, the needle was past the F. I knew I wasn't driving a Prius, so I went to the gas station to see how much I could get in the tank. It took over 7 gallons, and when I started the car, the needle moved so far past the F, I might as well have had 5/4ths of a tank.

Any ideas? Is there an easy adjustment for this? With a trip odometer, I could always go without a fuel gauge, but it is a little annoying.

sounds like the average thirdgen...

in my formula, with a full tank, i drive roughly 100 miles before it goes below the Full mark...

with the tank DEAD empty, and pump howling..it only takes 5 gallons to get to the halfway mark...

They are all like this, along with the sweeping needle because of fuel slosh.

Luckily, since these are "sumped" tanks factory...and there is little to keep fuel slosh down, these cars WILL let you know they are low on gas

aside from hearing the pump start to howl, they will fuel starve around corners, and during braking. once that happens, get to a station...VERY quickly, and i dont recomend that method at all..its VERY hard on fuel pumps.

Re: Fuel Gauge Way Off

Fuel gauge sender wire might have a bad connection or there's a break in the circuit somewhere.
