lots of rain=hidden road lakes :( my poor trans am

well, i was just driving around tonight and in minnesota there is a nasty rain storm that has been going on since early afternoon, and still is raining. i was driving along trying to watch the road and at the same time watch the cop that's in my rear view mirror, a combination of that with darkness makes it hard to see huge puddles. well i came upon one and swerved outta the way quick enough, but only to swerve into another huge puddle. ****!

immediately let off the gas to see what's going on, and my SES light comes on right away, and the car starts to bog down. keeping my foot on the gas until i can get into a parking lot, put it in neutral and keep my foot on the gas and stop in a space and just let everything dry out. it eventually ran by itself, but it still bogged once and a while. drove it home and parked it.

the code came up as a 33 which is MAF/MAP high signal voltage at idle.

anybody think it caused any real damage? if it got me home fine then probably not right? i didn't notice or hear any misfire or knocking. oil pressure is still good.

Nice looking car. Yes, if you got it home it should be fine. Check the oil, pull the plugs, but your biggest danger is hydrolocking, which, you didn't do so.. clean it all up and should be good to go. Doesn't sound like you did any mechanical damage.

If you still have a code, you have to resolve that problem.

i checked the oil before i started it today and it looked like it did yesterday before i hit some water.

it starts and hear no knocks or anything. but it runs like poop. possibly my MAF is done for?

i start the car the first time and it runs ok, just ok. right away jumps up to 1800 rpm then slowly backs down to around 800, then it bounces from like 750 to 1000 constantly.

shut it off and sit for 5 min, start it up again and hardly stays running. it'll idle at about 500 and bog a little, also have a misfire.

shut it off, wait 5, start it up again and it's like the first time.

doesn't sound like something with the plugs since the misfire isn't all the time.

Sounds like you got some water up in the engine bay. since it stayed running you didn't suck any in through the intake. I'd pull the plug wires, cap, rotor and make sure everything is all clean. I would also pull all your electrical connectors (especially the map/maf sensor connector) and hit them with a bit of connector cleaner (you can pick it up at local parts store). From there, check all your vacuum lines, may have caused an inadvertant leak from cold water on hot hoses.

With the code, you may have gotten water up on the MAp/MAF sensor and fouled it. if the above doesn't fix the problem, I'd put in a new sensor and try that.

I unplugged my MAF and ran the car, and it ran better with it unplugged. so the maf is bad, and i'm getting a new one in the morning.
