check engine codes 32 an 15

I almost got my car completely ready to drive but i need to fix two things. I get a code 32 and code 15 on the check engine light and i need help fixing that. the code 15 is for the temp gauge wire (long wire coming from behind drivers side head pic 1) and it connects to a sensor under the drivers side head. i need to know if this is the right wire and if so what connector i need to buy to replace the butchered one.

The second code (32) means something is up with the EGR. I know it is hooked up to some vacuum lines (pic 2) but im not sure how these lines hook up. here is a picture of the two open lines on the car(pic 3) I also think it is supposed to hook up to a solenoid behind the distributor but i cant seem to find it(maybe it was removed) I need to fix this EGR problem so if anyone knows how to or how to disable the EGR properly (is that a good idea?) I really want to get this car driving with no more problems so all the help is really appreciated.

also guys please bare with me and my currently small amount of knowledge with cars cause Im young and still learning. thanks
also i know this is posted in another thread but im not sure how to delete it cause i wanted it moved here.

Re: rough idle and bad performance

As far as the egr goes, you can check the valve with a vacuum pump. If that works properly it will be the solenoid. Vacuum lines on tbi-tpi should be the same as far as the egr goes, if I can get the chance tomorrow after work I'll take a picture of how mine is hooked up.

Now with the temp sensor ordeal, there are two temp sensors on our cars, one in the front of the intake near the water neck, which is a two wire weatherpack connector.
The second is in the passenger side head under the exhaust manifold, which is only one wire. As long as theres nothing wrong with the wiring, I would replace both.

Also, you can't bump a post more than once a day, against the rules. Thought I'd let ya know before you got a good bash.

As another young thirdgen owner, I'm glad to help as much as I can. I've had my car since I was 16 and now I'm going on 19, and learned a lot along the way.

Re: check engine codes 32 an 15

ok thank you for the info on bumping. i just need to know what to do with the egr cause from this looks of it the solenoid was removed. (the engine block isnt original) im not sure what i should do (can i delete the egr) or where i should buy another.(I also would appreciate the pictures as i got the car those vacuum lines were not hooked up. as for the temp sensor the second one you mentioned isnt hooked up at all cause the connector is broken i need a new connector and sensor cause they both are mangled. i appreciate the help cause im like you im only 20 and im still learning.

Re: check engine codes 32 an 15

Well the connectors are easy to grab, top one is a $5 junkyard trip. When you replace the one in the head, all you need is a female wedge style connector.

You can delete the egr if you want, as long as your state doesn't do inspections.
They sell block off plates on summit and jegs, or you can half **** it like I did in a pinch on my gf's 85 2.8 turd. I trimmed a piece of sheet metal and drilled holes in it and stuck it between the egr and where it bolted into a hose, ours would just be between the egr and intake.

Re: check engine codes 32 an 15

will i still get an error code and rough idle problems if i delete the egr?. also do have any idea where i can buy a new sensor? i need the one that hooks up under the head between plugs 1 and 3. that is the one for the gauge on the dash and i think that is what is causing my code 15

Re: check engine codes 32 an 15

Yes, you will still get the code, and if it is whats causing idle issues then those should go away.

With the sensor, just take a ride down to Autozone/Advance auto/O'Riellys/ pep boys/etc whatever is in your area

IIRC since the top sensor is measuring the water temp, the guage will be reading off of that. The one in the head is for engine calculations only

EDIT: What are the symptoms of your idle issue? If its something else maybe I can help you track it down.

Re: check engine codes 32 an 15

it just has a rough idle. i was told by many people on this forum that the cause is probably the code 32(egr) or the code 15 (temp sensor)

Okay then from what I'm understanding, you don't have the solenoid... but you do have a vacuum line hooked up to the valve?

If so, its running rough because the valve is open at all times. You can probably check this by pulling the vacuum line off the egr, plugging the hose with your thumb and see how it runs when you do that.

Pictures will be up after work! I'll label them and junk too so its more helpful

Re: check engine codes 32 an 15

Okay heres the pic...
Note how I forgot to label it in my photoshop program, so ill just tell you since its simple.

Left side vacuum line - vacuum source, mine is plugged into my throttle body, yours should have a nipple for it, or you can always buy a T and hook it up elsewhere.
Right side vacuum line - goes to egr valve

@Kozusnik, yes you can plug a vacuum line, just make sure your means of plugging it actually seals so it doesn't cause a leak. Such as where I've seen a spark plug stuck in a hose.

@Skyshadow, if you want to fix it, what I would recommend is to first make sure your wiring is there for it. Then take a trip to the junkyard to get the bracket that mounts the solenoid. Take a trip to the parts store to get a new solenoid and hook it all up...
