Lack of compression...
2.8 V6..it seemed to run fine before the previous owner tore it down to fix a possibly blown head gasket which i'm still not sure of his reasons for thinking that besides it was leaking coolant and he didn't know if it was from the intake or the head...either way i got the car mostly assembled without the upper intake on or any front accessories...i put it all back together and it wouldn't start...thought maybe the valves where out of adjustment so i tore it back down...now i've tried to adjust them by the book to no avail and i still have the valve covers off trying to get them right...even with a compression tester i'm having no luck...i'm only getting about 90 PSI max...i was told it should be somewhere close to 160 PSI and i'm not getting it any one have any ideas on what it could be of where i should go from here.
EDIT: He also put in a new cam and lifters since he had them in a rebuild kit he had.

Re: Lack of compression...
without knowing what the book told you I would advise you to back the rocker nuts/bolts of a 90 degree turn each on one cylinder then test to see if that improves anything. You should really so a leak down test or just charge the cylinder with air at tdc to see where the air is leaking. If it's valves leaking a relatively substancial amount of air will come through the ports a small breeze isn't a big deal. If air does come out of the valves try loosening the rockers until it seals up. You must be at the correct TDC for this to work. TDC compression not exhaust stroke.
