You cant recharge the freon in your stock 82. Its an R-12 system and requires ASE certification to purchase the freon. You cant properly service any AC system without the proper equipment in the first place. Releasing freon into the atmosphere is a federal offense and can get you a $10,000 fine.

Unless you have the equipment to do it right, take it to a shop. I recommend you have the shop convert it to R134a as its much cheaper and easier to find. Dont let any hack or con artist rob you either. All a conversion requires is fitting adapters to accept the R134 and a thorough evactuation(30 minutes of vacuum). It shouldnt cost more that $200. Not much more than the cost of a single R12 reharge. Be sure they replace any oil lost in the evac with PAG 30.

R12 uses a shrader valve. R134 uses a special quick connect fitting. The adpater fittings will thread right on to the R12 shrader valves. There are two. A larger one for the high side, a smaller one for the low side.
