better than nitrous

I keep getting PM's about my suggestion that it's good to put a cheap Chinese turbo on a near-stock 305, and my saying it'll eat most 305s and run with most 383s.
Moderators, this really doesn't need to be moved to the power adder sub-forum. This is to help guys decide if they should be reading here or there.
Guys, if you just put a T61 on an LG4 or LO3, and run it at 6 psi, then you are gonna lose to most decent 350s.
But if you put a T66 on an LB9, and run it at the practical upper end of what your old stock pistons can take, then you're over 400 real NET horses. The 401 horse Vortec 350 on my best builds sticky, that's GROSS HP, not NET.
You can run with the carb'd Vortec 383 making 450 gross horses, and you can do it cheaper, even after upgrading your fuel pump and injectors.
do it rear-turbo, like the STS kit, and you won't need an intercooler. you also aren't adding weight in front of the front axle centerline, you aren't tampering with any emissions crap, you will get better MPG than the non-turbo, big-cube combos, it looks like a CAI, and you don't need headers, since the turbo itself is the restriction, not the stock exhaust manifolds.
A T66 is right for a 230-horse LB9, and a T61 is right for an LG4 or LO3.

Re: better than nitrous

You will also need tuning + 2-bar MAP if your running TPI/EFI. A popular ECM mask to use is the $59 code. A lot of people are using that, so there is good support for it. Both the stock SD and MAF setups wont work. The stock MAF setup will max out real quick with only 255 grams/sec of airflow. Even my NA 350 pulls over 300 grams/sec. The stock SD setup will not be able to meter fuel over 100 kPa of manifold pressure. 6-10 PSI is around 140-170 kPa, so thats just about right for a 2-bar setup.
