Engine #12513151??

Hi all,

Anyone have info on the #12513151 ENG-5.7GW? One of these engines was installed by the previous ownerback in 2001 and I'm trying to get info on it so I can figure out if i want to try a new cam.

Some info on my car, it's a 1991 Z-28 and had a crate engine installed at about 130k back in april 2001, the car currently is sitting at 170.5k, still gets on it. The numbers from the chassis dyno listed below are ok i guess but I would like to get more out of the car if possible (and in the higher rpms). I'm thinking a cam would be a great place to start, but I'm not sure what cam the crate engine "#12513151 ENG-5.7GW" came with, so I'm not sure what I should be looking at to get more power. Here's as much info as i have on the car right now:

Engine: part#12513151 ENG-5.7GW (gm goodwrench?) w/~40k miles
Heads: #14101083 w/ 1.6 crane gold roller rockers
Intake: TPI stock runner/intake (as far as i can tell)
Cam: ?
Headers: Edelbrock 6876; 1-5/8" (long tube?) Dual cat
Tranny: 700R4 rebuilt (shifts hard, supposedly has kevlar internals)
Rearend: stock w/3.73:1 gears
Suspension: Eibach springs (2" drop), panhard rod bar and home-made boxed control arms
Wheels/Tires: 17" 245/45 all around
Power: 315 torque@3900/247hp@4400 at the wheels. This was done June '10 and the tuner stopped at 4.4krpms cause car was running hot. The hp curve was still going up!

Note that the #14101083 heads that are on the car right now are not the one's listed for that crate engine, hence my apprehension on what cam is currently in the car. If it's this one...
http://paceperformance.com/index.asp...D&ProdID=42937
then it list the heads as 14102193, a 65.3 cc head w/ this cam:

HYDRAULIC ROLLER CAMSHAFT
INTAKE LIFT-.359" * EXHAUST LIFT.384" *
INTAKE DURATION @.050-186.5 * EXHAUST DURATION @.050-193.8
LOBE CENTER SEPERATION -110.3
CAMSHAFT MECHANICAL SPECS:
INTAKE VALVE OPENS @ -16.9 BTDC * INTAKE VALVE CLOSES @ 23.4ATDC * INTAKE LOBE CENTERLINE - 110.3
EXHAUST VALVE OPENS @ 25.6BBDC * EXHAUST VALVE CLOSES @ -11.9 ATDC * EXHAUST LOBE CENTERLINE - 110.3

For those that know this stuff, does this look like a cam that can produce the numbers I achieved on the chassis dyno with #14101083 (64cc chamber) heads? What cam would go well with my set up and give me better power?

I called up Comp Cams recently to find out what they would recommend, the most aggressive cam they would suggest for my car was the "502" cam as the guy on the phone referred to it (the XR269HR):
HYDRAULIC ROLLER CAMSHAFT
INTAKE LIFT-0.495* EXHAUST LIFT 0.503" *
INTAKE DURATION @.050-218 * EXHAUST DURATION @.050-224
LOBE CENTER SEPERATION -112
CAMSHAFT MECHANICAL SPECS:
INTAKE VALVE OPENS @ -26 BTDC * INTAKE VALVE CLOSES @ 62 * INTAKE LOBE CENTERLINE - 108
EXHAUST VALVE OPENS @ 74BBDC * EXHAUST VALVE CLOSES @ -22 ATDC * EXHAUST LOBE CENTERLINE - ? (i assume its the same as intake lobe centerline).

holy cow its late, i hope this all makes sense cause i need to catch some zzz's. Thanks for all input.

Alan

edit: it was late, and now that i've gone back over it i realized how messy this post looked. I tried to clean it up some, thanks again for any suggestions.

Sounds like somebody bought a crate engine and proceeded to upgrade parts.

What induction are you running?

I'd want to know what cam and springs it has now before going with a different cam. Doesn't sound like it has the crate cam anymore.

Re: Engine #12513151??

I'm not sure how to identify the springs, i'll see if i can find a how-to and take a look but as for the induction it seems to be a stock TPI runners and intake. It has the standard dual air cleaner pulling air from the front up and over the radiator to the intake. The runner's look to be about 1-5/8" so my guess is the intake system hasn't been touched.

I'll need to locate my micrometer to see what size of throttle body it's got on it, i'll post that once i can measure it.
