Car: 87 IROC Z, 2010 2LT
Engine: 305 TPI, 3.6 V6
Transmission: 5-Spd, 6-Spd
Axle/Gears: G92 3.45
Code 44
Hey all
I have an '87 IROC, 5spd. I have recently swapped 305's; my old '87 LB9 with a knock for an '88 LB9 long block out of an automatic TA.
When the engine went in, we removed the AIR equipment (pump was seized anyway, and the CAT air tube was broken) and the A/C. Replaced with an AC Delete box.
Edelbrock shorties/Y were also installed at the time of swap.
After all this, after being on the highway for awhile, I'm geting a code 44. This is the only time I get the code, and turning off the ignition for a few seconds while driving and then firing back up will clear it for awhile.
I read up about problems with O2 temp after header install and picked up and installed a heated O2:

I wasn't sure which relay was the fuel pump, so I pulled them one at a time and spliced into the one on the right. (I unplugged it and the fuel pump didn't prime). I spliced into the orange lead (Terminal E). Grounded to the fog light ground on the DS inner fender
After starting back up, the car seemed to stumble, almost stalled out for a bit. I let it warm up for a bit, took it for a ride around town and it seems fine. Took it on the highway for a 30 minute drive and the code 44 has come on again.
I wanted to make sure I have this wired up correctly before moving on to further diags, and if anyone might have any feedback as to what I should be looking for, if removing any of the AIR/AC equipment could be contributing, etc.
Thanks for any assistance.
