kid wanting to learn
Im looking for a website a book or anything to fill me in on chevy engines.
Ive rebuilt a couple with my father. I can name every part that comes off a small block and big block chevy v8 and i can name every small block from a 265, to a 400 off the top of my head. But what has me confused is cam specs and head flow numbers. i know with heads the bigger combustion chamber the lower the compression ratio, and i know the higher the duration of a cam the more lopey the idle will be, and i know the difference between a roller and a hydraulic cam. i know every thing except the numbers and i would really like to learn.

Re: kid wanting to learn
Well this is a complicated area of study. If your trying to learn just what the terms themselves mean a quick google search can explain it all. There are tons of great articles out there. The real challenge is what these numbers mean in terms of an application. For this to get a nice introduction to to these topics there are 2 books I would recommend looking into. camshafts and valve trains and also chevrolet small block cylinder heads both by David Vizard. There getting kind of dated but they serve as a great introduction to the basic principals. If you had any specific questions on the topic feel free to ask away.

Go to the public library I was amazed how many books they had at mine for SBC motors.
Also the function on TGO is awesome if you got keywords of interest.
