Hot cam in a 355 TPI

I was wondering if i can i use a lt4 hot cam in a 89 355 tpi. Because on the summit website the hot cam they offer it says that it is not computer compatible, so do i need a cam that is computer compatible? If it is a matter of prom tuning that doesnt matter to me because i am going to be burning my own chips

Re: Hot cam in a 355 TPI

Plenty of members have LT4 hot cams in TPI powered engines. This cam was made for the LT1 which is computer controlled. Don't know if the one you saw was made for carbs but I doubt it. I'm assuming by non-computer compatible, they mean the PROM just needs tuning.

Call Summit, they have a number for tech questions like this. Could mean that it is not compatible with the stock ECU, would require tuning as the previous poster has said

Summit's techlines are hit and miss. Sometimes you get a smart one, other times you get an idiot.

Not computer compatible simply means that it will not work with the stock computer. It will have to have a custom tune.

For the record, the Hot Cam with 1.6:1 rockers is also not compatible with stock Vortec heads.

Re: Hot cam in a 355 TPI

not in stock form

If you change retainers, springs, and seals, the 1.5s will work for certain. Not sure yet on the 1.6s

the guides should be cut on them to allow higher lift. Especially if you have the heads off the motor.
