My car isnt catching the parking gear? HELP
So my car does not want to catch the parking gear, i have to sometimes force it in for it to get it..and sometimes on uphills it just wont catch it at all..
I have the car as i type in the garage right now with the handbrake on..
The mechanic i took the car to told me that at the bottom of the car theres a line that helps the car switch gears, and that it needed more wd40 so that it would slide without problems.. he added some to it and for a while it was cool, but now its doing it again..
Can anybody give me advice on this issue please? its really annoying not trusting your car when you park it.
Can anyone tell me what piece hes referring to and its cost? and whether i should replace it or just lube it up or something.

Re: My car isnt catching the parking gear? HELP
have you tried re-setting the selector cable?
Besides poor or incorrect cable setting/wear, the problem could be internal with the selector in the transmission.
Good luck...sounds awful actually.
I actually had same issue recently except that the actual selector cable retainer bracket failed and allowed the cable shaft to move...therefore not allowing correct gear selection.
I was trying to park the car at the time too.
Had to let it roll to the kerb and come up with something REAL quick.
I've performed several cable re-sets lately.
